They should be getting close to pupating. It's shocking how fast they grow & how much they poop!

Eating his own skin!

Waste not!

Caught #3 in the act!

The third one just molted, & I was able to watch. It was a surprisingly quick process!

This is a series of pictures of the last part of the molting: share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8QYs3Ldo5aqIEo.

Caterpillar just molted!

This one just molted. His old skin is visible just underneath him. This one is the second largest of the four caterpillars we have. It loos like a third one is just getting ready to molt.

The caterpillars are growing!

This is the largest of the caterpillars. They are growing so fast!

Black Swallowtail Caterpillars

I brought in several caterpillars last night before a rain storm. I feared they might get washed away. They are happily munching on the fennel that came inside with them. It's amazing how quickly they grow. Everyone is exited about seeing the butterfly life cycle again this year!

In the picture, you can see one of the larger ones & another smaller one in the back ground.

Caterpillars on our Fennel!!

We have black swallowtail butterfly caterpillars on our fennel! At first, I thought we had only three. When I went back, I saw quite a few more plus additional eggs. I don't think the fennel will last long, but it's going to be awesome to see them grow!
